I got to hang out with this Tulsa family on a totally normal weekday afternoon— just everyday after school life unfolding in real time. Lunch pails on the table, snack negotiations, and some backyard chaos before dinner time. Nothing Fancy, nothing posed. And honestly? Thats what made it perfect!
As a Tulsa Documentary Photographer. These are the moments I live for. The real stuff. The things we usually rush through or don’t give much thought to while we’re in it. But later? They are the memories that hit the hardest. This in-home family session was full of personality, connection and the little details that make a family ’s story theirs.

After showing off all her best gymnastic skills (and making sure we ALL saw them), things slowly settled into a rhythm. The energy shifted and beautiful golden afternoon light flooded the backyard— and just like that a full on game of hide and seek kicked off.
Thats when the magic started.

Parents tucked up in trees, children giggling in their ‘not so hidden’ hiding spots. And parents trying (and failing) to keep a straight face while pretending they couldn’t find them. It was playful and unfiltered—the kind of moment that only happens when no one’s trying too hard, and everyones just IN IT.

It always hits me later—usually when I’m scrolling through the gallery already imagining my clients reaction. These aren’t just pretty picture— They’re REAL memories.
Its like… when you look back at the photos, yeah, everyone looks beautiful— but its even better because it’s YOUR own home. YOUR backyard. YOUR chaos. YOUR light pouring through the trees. It just makes that moment feel even more special.
Thats exactly how this mom responded when I delivered the gallery:
“I love them so much!! Why am I tearing up right now?”
Thats the power of documentary family photography. Capturing the everyday in a way that feels real—because it is. And in a place like Tulsa, where there aren’t many photographers offering this style, its a truly unique and personal experience.
So yeah, it was just a regular afternoon—snacks (aka leftover lunch), baby messes, backyard hide and seek. But also? It was magic.
These are the days we forget while we’re living them. Until we don’t.
